  2. Get 7 1/2 oz Canned chipotles in adobo sauce

  4. Prepare 1/2 medium Red onion
  5. Make ready 6 slice Thick-cut bacon
  6. Make ready 1 tsp Chili powder
  7. Make ready 3 clove Garlic
Instructions to make Texas-style Black Beans:
  1. Turn unoiled pan on medium-high heat
  2. Cut bacon into 1 inch squares and add to pan
  3. While the bacon is cooking, chop your onions, cilantro, garlic, and chipotles (save the adobo sauce)
  4. After letting your bacon cook to release some of the oils, add in your onions and cook until translucent
  5. Once translucent add in your garlic (BE SURE NOT TO CRISP THE BACON OR BROWN THE GARLIC)
  6. Add chili powder, chopped chipotles and remaining adobo sauce and cook until everything is tender and fragrant
  7. Add black beans/cilantro and bring to a boil
  8. Reduce heat to low and cook for 20-30 minutes (the longer the better)
  9. Serve over rice, garnished with raw red onion and chopped cilantro
